THE PRESS RELEASES
13 DECEMBER 2001 - THE SMASHING PUMPKINS IS BROADCASTED
For three hours, I broadcasted thirty-three songs from the Smashing Pumpkins covered nearly every album they released from their debut Gish to the Internet release MACHINA II and their recent greatest hits package Rotten Apples and Judas O. Go here to see more information including a tracklist and the flyer that was used to promote the show.
24 SEPTEMBER 2001 - BLACK AND NIHILISM ARE THE COLOURS WE WEAR TODAY IS NOW AVAILABLE
I just released my first extensive poetry anthology, with a poetic timeline from my elementary school days in 1990 to the first month or so at the College of William and Mary at the present day.
Black and Nihilism are the Colours We Wear Today (stemming from the poem "Einsamkeitwirklichkeit, Liebesszenetraum") is a collection of five smaller anthologies. The first one contains poems written during my elementary and middle school days, showing the free verse style that I would later develop. The second one was originally intended to be a self-published print chapbook of poems that would "promote" me as a poet (as well as the name "djproject"). The third is the only sub-anthology where the poems share a common theme of art and/or music. The fourth contains poems worthy of being on the second one but missed the mark. The fifth one contains some of my most recent poems, written during my senior year in high school.
The anthology itself took nearly three years to complete and it was originally intended to be a printed anthology (even the pages would be black). However, I spent nearly two weeks encoding the poems into HTML/CSS and designing the various iconographies that grace the separate anthologies.
11 SEPTEMBER 2001 - THE HIGH FIDELITY DISCUSSION HOUR WILL MAKE ITS DEBUT THIS FRIDAY ON WCWM
After a total of about thirteen hours worth of training and sessions of proving thyself, I'm now in the ranks of being a DJ at the official radio station of the College of William and Mary, WCWM 90.7. And on Friday (14 September), "The High Fidelity Discussion Hour" will make its debut starting at 10 and ending at midnight.
The show's concept was drawn upon my love of music and yet not being able to share it with other people. Plus I wanted a show that stood out above other shows that were out there. It is not to say that I don't like them (in fact I had a chance to listen to several of them and enjoyed them) but nevertheless there needed to be something more than just playing whatever happens to be a personal favorite (as long as it complies with FCC airtime regulations).
The format of the show will initially start out with me playing a couple of tracks and then discussing it from its origins, its famous uses, interesting trivia and more importantly why I like them. There will be a fifteen-minute block devoted to requests that are made in advance (I will never honor requests made on the air). As time goes on, the show may be expanded to include other things as well.
DISCLAIMER: The show's content and idea is under the ownership of the djproject Group and WCWM is the means to distribute it. Besides that, the djproject Group has not received any official support or endorsements from the radio station.
06 SEPTEMBER 2001 - THE djproject GROUP IS ESTABLISHED THROUGH www.djproject.cc
The djproject Group now has a home on www.djproject.cc, ceremoniously began on the nineteenth birthday of its founder and principal director, Derek Power - or me :).
The djproject Group is a signature mark for everything that I do creatively, whether its a musical project, artwork, film or poetry. For the moment - since I'm currently in studies at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, VA - that will be its only function. Eventually it will become a business proper. More projects are coming into works and will be realized here.
DISCLAIMER: The djproject Group is in no way affliated with DJ Project - www.djproject.com - a collective of DJs on the Internet and mostly based in Brazil. Although the two groups are pronounced the same way, the distinction between the two groups lies in the spelling. "djproject" (and its appropriate logo) will henceforth refer to the one created and run by me.
