On 6 February 1693, King William III and Queen Mary II granted a royal charter to create a College in the colony of Virginia so that "the Church of Virginia may be furnished with a seminary of ministers of the gospel, and that the youth may be piously educated in good letters and manners, and that the Christian faith may be propogated amongst the Western Indians, to the glory of Almighty God" (for anyone shocked by the political incorrectness of it all and assert that it's "not true"... check it out here). Three hundred and eleven years later, a man with certain passions (and probable delusions) went on the air and proclaimed a time present containing both time past and time future (thank you T.S. Eliot). In other words, William and Mary turned 311 and life goes on as usual (meaning no days off):
