ABLINEAR FREQUENCY MODULATION 3.0
Waiting for Godot or Guffman or Grouch or Something... - 05 March 2004
This is attended to be the first show to have a special guest - or in my poor attempts to use other languages, an "amicus curiae musica electronique" - to facilitate discussion and ideas about electronic music. However, due to the complications that comes with rising a child, she was not able to make it. But then again, it was not a total loss... I got back on the air, I had a great show and I knew that someone was listening in:
AUTECHRE Autechre Play Weissensee Against Im Glόck Splitrmx12 [WAP124]
The original composition was by Neu!, the German kraut-rock that compromised of Michael Rother and Klaus Dinger, both former members of other great kraut-rock group Kraftwerk. This remix appeared on an vinyl-only, mail-order release that Autechre put out in 1999 after the release of EP7. This track - as well as the flip-side - represents Autechre ability to work with minimal material (in terms of sounds and melodies) to create an interesting mix and it is a nice return to the "simpler days."
OVAL Ovalcommers 8 Ovalcommers
Oval - now consisting of just Markus Popp - are in a category all their own. Their original claim to fame was severely altering tracks to sound like your five-year old sibling put crayon marks and pebbles on your favorite album, say Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2. Now they are the experimental force behind the laptop musicians, write their own software that allows them to muck around with recorded CD tracks. This is the latest effort from Oval and lives up to the new bumper sticker motto of WCWM: "static and music that sounds like static."
KID KOALA Skanky Panky Some of My Best Friends Are DJs
And now for something completely different... I figured I have to be generous and considerate after that kind of sonic assault.
